New rules have just been announced for Hong Kong (.hk) domain names, to take effect from June 1. These changes will coincide with the handover from the academic Joint Univerisities Computer Center to the Hong Kong Domain Name Registration Company Limited ("HKDNR").
The main piece of good news is that Hong Kong businesses will no longer be limited to having just one domain name per business, so multiple names including product names, trademarks and variations of the business name will all be able to be registered much more easily.
All .hk names will now have a domain name renewal period and ongoing fee, bringing .hk into line with most other country code registries world wide. The new fee of HKD200.00 per annum will apply to all names.
A new dispute resolution policy will also come into force on 1 June, with the first arbitrtator to be the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre.
